If you're wondering how to start or run a daycare center, let me begin by congratulating you on your decision to make this your business. Having a daycare can be highly rewarding, and not just financially. Being able to work with children is a dream come true for many people, but it takes courage to start any new business.
To run a daycare you need to be concerned about 2 things:
1. Safety.
2. The day to day routine of the business.
Safety
You have to be able to provide safety to the children under your care. This includes having a first aid kit and knowing how to use it, having emergency numbers at hand, making sure that the children are kept away from sharp objects, and so on. One important thing to have is a set of pictures of people who are allowed to pick up the children. The last thing you need is to have a child kidnapped from your doorstep.
Day to day routine
Make it a habit to plan a week in advance if there are any holidays coming up or other special events. By planning ahead you know how you're going to be keeping the children occupied. In addition, make sure that you have all the equipment you need and make a monthly review of toys, books, sleeping mats, and any other piece of equipment.
If you have staff, they need to be informed as to how you plan to run your daycare center, whether it's at home or not. These are children and they need to be taken care of. Make sure you have a staff which understands this.
