Thyroid Tests and Vaccines

The latest thing in medicine is the 'fact' that all medicine is based on solid, scientific evidence.

Excuse me? At least 70% of all medical practice has no scientific basis, relying instead on tradition, rumor and best guess. Meanwhile, doctors, according to the latest statistics available, kill 1200 patients a month with the medicines they prescribe. Obviously, their evidence doesn't come with a 'beyond a reasonable doubt' requirement.

In the interest of science, this new evidence-based medical paradise dismisses patient symptoms.. Too 'anecdotal' don't you know, and besides, doctors insist, patients lie. Perhaps you wondered why the doctor ignores you. Now you know. Kinda gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling, doesn't it?

So let's take a short stroll through two areas of medicine and see what's there.

First stop: Did you know there's no scientific basis for vaccines? They have anecdotal evidence-which apparently works for vaccines but not for symptoms-but no science.

Flu shots don't even have anecdotal evidence. Although widely advertised, they don't work and they don't have a nickel's worth of any kind of evidence to back them up. And certainly no science. Did you know that getting flu shots increases your risk of dementia?

When they shoot you up with any vaccine, it includes glutamate, which inflames your brain, which, in turn, can damage your endocrine system, your nervous system or both.

And the same stuff is in the shots they give to infants. So we risk our kids' health and future to throw a few shekels into Big Pharma's commodious pockets. They have friends in government who made immunizations, unproven though they are, mandatory.

Did you know, for one example, that the mumps vaccine is riskier than getting mumps-even as an adult? And if your pediatrician blows the whistle, he/she could end up without a license to practice medicine? The fix is in.

Pardon me all to pieces for going moral, but sacrificing kids for profit is evil.

Stop two brings us to evidence-based blood tests. I deal with thyroid issues, so let's talk about one of the thyroid tests. Did you know the TSH test, the gold standard of thyroid tests, has no science behind it? It was adopted based on a vote of endocrinologists. I kid you not!

And it's such a bust that medical schools, one by one, are dropping it from the curriculum. But if you don't hit the mark on that bad boy, you don't get the medicine you need to make you feel halfway human again.

But then, the medicine of choice is as lame as the test,-yet another 'follow the money' story. Bottom line? If your thyroid goes south, so does your life.

Well, I could go on. And on. And on. And on. Medicine doesn't serve us well. Why? Because medicine has no accountability to the patient.

Here's my plan to change that: First, everybody pays for their own insurance; that alone gives you leverage to force change. As long as health insurance is a deal between employers and insurance companies-or worse, government--you don't count, and good doctors are silenced. Second, the states can't edict what coverage you get. Third, you can buy your health insurance wherever you want to. Last, your cost of health insurance is deductible from state and federal taxes.

With that simple plan, health insurance costs will plummet, the level of care will skyrocket and evidence-based medicine will die a natural death. What's not to like?

Bette Dowdell is not a doctor, nor does she purport to be one. She's a patient who's spent the past 30+ years studying, with great success, how to handle endocrine problems. Her best credential is that doctors tell her she's doing 'too well' for somebody with pituitary problems. Enzymes and Odour Control

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Enzymatic is a high performance, non-toxic and 100% biodegradable multiple enzyme at the forefront of the modern Australian biotechnology industry. It breaks down oils and greases in septic tanks, sludge treatment ponds, grease traps, floors, drains and pipes making it easier for the bacteria to consume any organic waste matter. At the same time, it rapidly eliminates odours.

Enzymatic is effective over a wide range of pH levels and temperatures. Because it is in a liquid form, bacterial stimulation is immediate and there are no residues. The use of enzymes to improve the biological degradation of organic matter is well known. It has been found especially advantageous to add quantities of a number of enzymes directly into septic tank systems and sludge treatment ponds so that catalytic reactions can digest organic impurities and stimulate and accelerate natural bacterial action.

Odour Elimination

Enzymatic works to eliminate odour by changing the molecular structure of the host environment. Reaction time is instantaneous. Normally present bacteria produce odours while decomposing nutrients. Hydrogen sulphide is the most infamous. Enzymatic does not produce malodorous compounds. Rather, it uses them in its unique metabolic process thus an advantageous synergistic relationship is formed. To control organic odour on tip face and in transfer stations Enzymatic is sprayed in a diluted form to capture the air born sulphides, return them to the ground to continue the digestion of the organic waste. Enzymatic is not a masking agent; it digests the cause of the odour so it cannot return. Enzymatic is passed by AQIS [ DPI ] and MAF[ NZ ] for use in food preparation areas for odour control and surface cleaning.

Grease Traps, Septic Tanks And Sludge Treatment Ponds

Enzymatic emulsifies and digests grease and other organic contaminants that cause expensive pump-outs and foul odours. With conditioned use, Enzymatic will keep grease traps, drain lines, garbage disposals, septic tanks, leach drains, and sludge treatment ponds free flowing and odourless. There are many organisms naturally in traps and lines. Few affect animal and vegetable fats and oils. In order to deal effectively with grease biologically, it is necessary to induce a population shift from undesirable to desirable organisms ( i.e., to dominate microbial activity). Bioaugumentation with Enzymatic accomplishes this dominance. Grease is digested by Enzymatic and converted to fatty acids, glycerol's, carbon dioxide and water. This process is called solubilisation. It inherently prevents rebinding of the grease recreating the problem further down the line as can happen when using chemicals and solvents. Some of the other by-products of solubilisation become nutrients for other bacteria present to further reduce accumulation.

Leach Drains & Sullage Pits

Enzymatic will rejuvenate clogged leach drains, sullage pits and restore the absorption field to full capacity eliminating and/or significantly reducing expensive maintenance

BOD's and Suspended Solids

Reduces levels of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) by enzymolysis through decomposition or conversion of the contaminants. A Mr. Brian May of West Australia Water Authority has been conducting tests with Enzymatic over twenty four months and has continued to re order Enzymatic as reductions in BOD's and suspended solids in the order of 30- 40% are being achieved. The paper is being written but is at this stage six months over due. Brian May himself is enthusiastic about the products potential and has agreed to act as a verbal referee. Should you wish to contact him please phone our Brisbane office for contact details.

RECONSTITUTION

There are many users of Enzymatic who will testify that previously clogged and dysfunctional grease traps, septic tanks and leach drain systems have begun to operate effectively as a result of continual usage of Enzymatic. This process can take anything from a few weeks to a few months to take effect. It is our firm belief that if reconstruction were occurring then these systems would block up again relatively quickly. The evidence is the opposite with our largest user, Baldivis Poultry Pty Ltd who have been using the product for approximately for 4.5 years. His leach drain has never worked as well despite a four fold increase in his chicken processing works.

Review of on Natural Selection by Charles Darwin

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I have been researching great thinkers and how they have shaped the world. I have also been trying to prove that the act of reading helps to generate or even stimulate great ideas. Great thinkers do not operate within a vacuum, they rely on the works of others, and often expand the original thought and take the world further. Charles Darwin and British biologist Alfred Russel Wallace independently arrived at similar theories of Natural Selection in the mid-1800s after reading Essay on the Principle of Population by British pastor Thomas Malthus.

Darwin defines natural selection as the "preservation of favourable variations and the rejection of injurious variation." So what does this all mean? Darwin further adds, "Variations neither useful nor injurious would not be affected by natural selection, and would be left a fluctuating element, as perhaps we see in the species called polymorphic... Natural selection can act only by taking advantage of slight variations; she can never take a leap, but must advance by the shortest steps."

This book wasn't the easiest to read, and I found it quite "dry". But, in my quest to find out where really good ideas come from, I made the sacrifice and slogged through it. I have selected fives ideas from On Natural Selection. For the five ideas below, how can you use them in different contexts to resolve/understand modern day problems?

Five Good Ideas

  1. When a plant or animal is placed in a new country amongst new competitors, though the climate may be exactly the same as its former home, yet the conditions of its life will generally be changed in an essential manner. If we wished to increase its average numbers in its new home, we should have to modify it in a different way to what we should have done in its native country; for we should have to give it some advantage over a different set of competitors or enemies.

  2. Individuals having any advantage, however slight, over others, would have the best chance of surviving and of procreating their kind

  3. When a species, owing to highly favourable circumstances, increases inordinately in numbers in a small tract, epidemics often ensue

  4. The more diversified the descendants from any one species become in structure, constitution, and habits, by so much will they be better enabled to seize on many and widely diversified places in the polity of nature, and so be enabled to increase in numbers

  5. Natural selection is working behind the scenes all the time throughout the world whenever the opportunity arises. It works to improve each organic being in relation to its organic and inorganic conditions of life. You cannot see these slow changes taking place, until after a long period of time has elapsed, we see that the forms of life are now different from what they formerly were

We could take idea number two and look at it in the context of education. It's a reasonable assumption to make that people who are more educated have a better chance of succeeding than those who have less education. Or, for that same idea, we could say, someone who has an idea and knows how to take action, will be more successful than someone who has ideas but do nothing about them. Success in this context is not restricted to financial success. Why don't you take one of the above five ideas and see what new ideas you can generate?

I recommend On Natural Selection because I am sure that you will come up with your own five ideas. This is not a book that you would read for entertainment, but it will certainly stretch you.

How to Turn Pennies Into Millions With Penny Stocks

I heard a great story about Warren Buffett recently.  One day Warren was riding in the elevator at his office in Omaha.  A few other people got on the elevator as well.  In the middle of the floor was a shinny penny. Everyone had a chance to pick it up, but nobody did.  Finally after a few seconds Warren reaches down and picks it up.  He looked at it for a moment then slipped the penny into his pocket.

Rumor has it, he said "the start of my next billion" as he put the penny in his pocket.

I don't know if the story's true or not, but it sounds like something he would do.  We all have dreams of turning pennies into millions (or billions in Warren's case).  Some people have a knack for making money out of almost anything.

In the stock market, there's a high risk, high reward way to make lots of money.

 Investing in Penny Stocks.

Now before you question my sanity let me ask you a question?  Have you ever traded penny stocks?  Do you even know what a penny stock is?

There are hundreds of definitions for a penny stock.  Some investors think very literally.  Only stocks that trade for pennies a share are penny stocks.  The US Government defines penny stocks a little more liberally. Here's the quote right from the SEC website:

The term "penny stock" generally refers to low-priced (below $5), speculative securities of very small companies.  While penny stocks generally are quoted over-the-counter, such as on the OTC Bulletin Board or in the Pink-Sheets, they may also trade on securities exchanges, including foreign securities exchanges.  In addition, penny stocks include the securities of certain private companies with no active trading market.

Look, forget all that legalese and government mumbo jumbo.

For me a penny stock is a publicly traded company whose entire market value (their market cap) is very small.  See, stocks are classified according to their size.  Large cap stocks are worth more than $50 billion.  Mid cap stocks are worth $10 to $50 billion.  Small cap stocks are worth $1 to $10 billion.  And micro-cap stocks or penny stocks are worth from $50 million to $1 billion.

How do you classify companies worth less than $50 million . . . I call them hobbies!

Seriously, if you're able to invest heavily in one of these micro-cap penny stocks just as it starts to grow, you can make some serious money.

Do you want an example?

About a year ago I was doing some research on the coal industry.  If you don't know, coal's one of the biggest sources of energy for the United States.  Some people have even crowned it "King Coal" and called the US the Saudi Arabia of coal.

To say we have lots of the stuff is an understatement.

While I was doing some research I came across a very interesting company, James River Coal (JRCC).  The company was founded in 1988 and produces coal for sale to electric utilities and industrial consumers. They have 6 mining complexes, 26 underground and surface mines, and 10 preparation plants.  All told the company has more than 265 million tons of proven and probable coal reserves.

Not bad for a little company that in August of 2007 was selling for less than $5 a share.

James River Coal was a penny stock.  The entire company was worth less that $125 million dollars.

Coal prices however were starting to go up and up and up.  And do you know what went up and up and up along with prices?  That's right, the stock prices of all the coal companies.  Not just James River Coal but some of the big players too.  Companies like Arch Coal (ACI) and Massey Energy (MEE) watched as their stock climbed.

So how can you make money trading these penny stocks?

The stock for JRCC was stuck below $5 for months and traded below $10 for almost half a year.  You could have bought all you wanted.

Then as oil prices and coal prices started to climb the stock just took off.  In less than a year the stock skyrocketed from penny stock status to more than $60 a share.  You read that right . . . more than $60 a share.

JRCC returned more than 1,100% in less than a year!

Now you'll notice the stock's recently fallen in price.  That's no doubt due to many investors taking their huge profits off the table.  Despite this recent correction, the stock's still up more than 500%.

Now you see how investing in penny stocks can be so valuable?

Don't forget, like anything, investing in a penny stock does have some risk.  Make sure to do your due diligence and discuss with your broker all the risks and potential rewards of penny stock investing.

General Motors: A Buy or Sell

With the recent decrease in oil prices, you may be eager to get back into the transportation game with the potential of making a decent return in certain equities. One of these specific equities could be General Motors (GM). While may experts are hyping the motion that oil is on its way down for an extended period of time, my views tend to differ which may not make GM as enticing as it is now.

Cringing on the future market of oil commodities, GM shows an incredible inverse relationship in terms its points juxtaposed to the price of oil. For example from 2004 to the beginning of 2006, an accurate representation of when oil prices escalated at its highest peak, shares of GM fell from near 55 points to close to 20 points in April of 2006. While the stock has made a small come back to near 35 dollars as of September of 2006, such an increase is unfortunately due to the decrease in oil as the dependency on oil is more extreme than almost any other factor. Since GM is highly touted for its truck and SUV lines, the big gasoline consumers, sales are directly affected by gas prices to such an extreme that if prices of oil climb enough, sales may become inverted as consumers may exchange their GM trucks or vans for more efficient automobiles produced by different companies. Such a transition will hurt GM's fundamentals and future guidance placing immense pressure for big institutions to sell their shares.

Now, you may be reading such a sentiment and be thinking that oil prices have fallen nearly 13% over the last few weeks which make this a perfect buying opportunity for GM. While the logic seems reasonable, in the rational expectations of the stock market, the reverse thinking will always bring in more positives than negatives. With such a sentiment of bliss surrounding shareholders of GM, shares will rise for the duration of the period of low oil prices. With this in mind, shares may increase a few percentage points for the next few weeks causing some capital gains. If you do tend to hold on to your shares for this period, I would advise selling around the 35 to 40 point range, if GM is ever to reach a number again. One innocuous looking cell in the Atlantic Ocean positioned to assail the Gulf of Mexico can have the effect of causing oil prices to go back to the 80 dollar range. It's still hurricane season, there are still ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and the oil market is a very volatile one. Investors may ask why prices are going down so much during September. The reason is because of a hiatus of intense conflict in the Middle East and a reluctant hurricane pattern, but any small disturbance, even just a rumor may have a tremendous negative effect on oil and shares of GM.

Fundamentals are another reason why GM should not be in your portfolio. Supporting negative margins in terms of revenue and a huge drop in net income to the point of negative numbers in the last few years shows the correlation of how oil has affected the numbers for this company. Operating margins are terrible as is the decrease in total assets relative to the increase in total liabilities. The company is supporting a negative EPS of nearly 20 cents, and while dividend payout may look favorable at 1.00, there is no justification in other areas to compliment this one bright spot. Thus, as oil has probably reached its floor in terms of price at around 60 dollars, expect prices of oil to increase in the following weeks as temperatures get colder into the first week of fall. With that will come GM's eventual decline back into the mid to low 20s with no optimism that investors can look at. If you do own GM shares, I would advise selling at such a price, and if you want to still have transports in your portfolio, companies like Honda and Toyota are excellent alternatives that produce automobiles suited for higher oil prices.

The Different Applications of 3D Printing

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Due to the advancement in science and technology, many inventions have emerged today to help us in our work. It makes us even more efficient and productive. It helps us see even the minute details of thing. More than that, we are able to make products which are accurate and precise or the exact replicas of the original. One of the very useful inventions of today is the printer. Printing has evolved through time and today, it is even designed to provide benefits to a lot of people in different sectors of work, from engineering to designing and also up to manufacturing.

The 3D printer is designed to produce an output with three dimensions with the use of different layers of material. It provides designs and output in a single process. 3D printer for rapid prototyping has been used to day in different applications especially in the field of designing, medicine and engineering. It saves a lot of time and effort for people to print out separate parts and glue them together to make a complete product. The three dimensional printing will provide you with an exact structure of what you are copying where there is no need to cut and glue the sides and corners.

Biotechnology is already undergoing studies on tissue formation so that possible organs and body parts can be formed through 3D printing. This technology will aid especially in possible organ replacements such as that of the hip. Whenever this happens, the artificial body parts used will be exactly like the original with all its dimensions.

Aside from that, it is used in architectural designs. It is very hard to put on the parts because it would really need lighter hands to glue them all together. Any slight mistakes can ruin the design. With 3D printing, you will be able to produce the design just like what you want it to be. With the exact size, length, width, shape and form, you will be able to see the result of your structure once you are done. It can also be used in the world of art where artists will express their passion for art with the use of 3D printers.

It is also used in schools and universities today especially when it comes to technology and designing courses. This would be a great advantage because even at school, students will be able to learn how to use high end technologies and also push designing beyond its limits by making use of 3D printing.

The 3D printer costs are worth its use. It has a lot of benefits especially that it is very easy to use and the speed of producing an exact result is immediate. The accuracy of the dimensions and its ability to copy what you want it to replicate are great advantages for people involved in medical engineering, architectural, arts and designing. A large number of this kind of technology is available in the market today that is why it is widely used today.

Computers and technology have evolved to meet up with the demands of the people for accuracy. 3D printing has proven to provide a lot of benefits for different applications. There are very important and additional information in http://www.3D-Printer.org about what you need to know when it comes to 3D printers.

Soy-Based Concrete Sealer

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Many do-it-yourselfers are turning to more environmentally friendly ways of remodeling and building their homes. With concrete and other stone surfaces, many people believe the only way to seal them and protect them is to use chemicals, chemicals that are often bad for the people applying them, the people living in the home, and the environment. A soy-based concrete sealer can be a durable and healthy choice for sealing your concrete and stone surfaces in and out of your home.

Other concrete sealants are known for being smelly and toxic to the lungs and the body. Soy-based concrete sealers are made from the renewable resource of soy esters. These natural ingredients are non-irritating, non-toxic, and are safe when being applied. They also do not give off any latent fumes like other materials, which makes them safe for the people living in and around the area that is sealed.

Most soy-based concrete sealers work a little differently than other sealers. Most sealers make a protective barrier on top of the area that is sealed, but this sealer actually penetrates the concrete or stone to help repel water from the inside. This can help to keep your concrete and other stone surfaces safe from water, surface wear, and more.

Applying this kind of sealer is much like other sealers. You simply apply it evenly with a sprayer, paint roller and extension rod, brush, or application pad. An even application will give you up to 24 months of protection from sun, water, stains, and normal wear and tear. This increases the beauty of your concrete and other stone surfaces and can make them more durable. Regular application every other year can keep the protective barrier strong and durable.

The biotechnology that is used in the creation of the soy-based concrete sealer is very advanced and environmentally friendly. It was manufactured to allow enough time for the sealer to penetrate without evaporating for maximum protection. This molecular bond formation that occurs between the sealer and the stone or concrete surface helps to create a stronger and more durable protective barrier. This can give your floors or other stone or concrete surface durability to allow you to live your life.

Soy-based concrete sealers give you an environmentally friendly way to seal your concrete and other stone surfaces without the worry of the toxic smell and effects of other sealers. They work as effectively as chemical sealers and are much healthier for you and for the environment. The clear finish penetrates into the stone to help make it more durable and safe from staining, surface wear, and other damage. Instead of a chemical sealer, be more environmentally responsible and use a soy-based concrete sealer.
